Before Barbies, and American girl dolls, there were the original homemade paper dolls. These paper dolls were drawn on small pieces of paper by the child or the mother. Then after that they could draw clothing for the paper dolls and dress them.

Womens fashion paper dolls showed the creativity of each person making it. These dolls were unique and each individual girl could even put them on a piece of paper as a gift. The issue with these paper dolls was that they were not easy to play with and the clothes did not stay on well. It is not surprising that they were soon replaced with more modern things.
