Women's Business Fashion... Can't Fake It

Women's Business Fashion
The saying goes that every person should dress for the job they want, not the job that they already have, and the fact is, this saying is true. What this cliche inevitably fails to leave out is that when you don't have a job that pays very well, it can sometimes be hard to dress very well.

The thing about women's business fashion is that it is not easy to fake it. A cheap forty dollar suit does not look the same as a well made four hundred dollar suit. And when you are working with, or under, people who do dress very well, they are very willing and able to know the difference.

I think what is most important is just to look clean, neat, and professional. Don't wear anything sexy, wrinkled, or tattered and you should be okay. If you are trying to go to work in a sleeveless high-cleavage top with holes in it, you are not going to send the right message.

Guidelines for Women's Business Fashion

women's business fasionDressing yourself for work doesn't require abandoning your individual style. Women's business fashion can give you a clean, professional appearance; dressing incorrectly can definitely harm your career.

When you get dressed in the morning, you should be trying to project a polished and professional image, no matter what your rank in the company currently is. This doesn't mean you have to dress expensively; just cleanly.

Your fashion decisions will tell a lot about your capability to do a good job. You should be more concerned about making a long-lasting good impression than looking trendy or sexy.

Some general rules to looking professional and prepared for the office:

1. Color is very important. Combing dark pieces, like pantsuits, with a softer color like lavender creates a professional, yet feminine look. Do not wear anything too bright or flashy.

2. Any jewelry that swings or "jingles" is distracting and should not be worn to the office. Opt for simple jewelry instead.

3. Look for a purse that looks firm, with straight controlled lines. An oversized or wrinkled handbag is often not appropriate for an office setting.

4. Keep up a clean image: pay attention to your hair and nails, your pantyhose, and your shoes. Wrinkled or stained clothing is definitely not acceptable.

5. It is essential your clothes fit you properly. Jackets should be able to be buttoned, no panty line through your pants, etc.

6. Oftentimes, sleeveless tops are considered too sexy; therefore, any kind of tube top, thin-strapped tank top, or anything sheer is improper.

One way of knowing the best way to dress at work is to imitate your boss's fashion sense. If she dresses in a formal manner, you should do the same. If you have any questions, be sure to ask. Many large companies have dress code guidelines pre-established and are available upon request.
