The Long And Short Of 1940's Women's Fashion

In fashion today, anything goes. Some of the looks resemble 1940's women's fashion but the fashions back then were worn for different reasons than they are today.

In the 1940's, there was a shortage on fabric and materials. This was a problem as women wore their dresses down to their knees or a little below. The broad, square shoulder look was in because of the influence of military clothing. The clothes and fabric were very plain and there was not much pizazz or flare to them. Women couldn't afford a new dress for every season so they had to make these dresses to last and be durable. Today women wear 1940's fashions, not realizing the hardships of what their mother's and grandmother's went through.
